My friend Legs has a great sense of fashion: retro with a dose of hippie. It looks fabulous on her and she has many pieces that make me drool with envy. Case in point: she wore a fantastic chocolate and cream polka dot June Cleaver style dress at their Christmas Eve Extravaganza. We all complimented her so much of her fab ensemble, that she declared we should bring back June Cleaver, from a fashion perspective, in 2010.
I couldn't agree more! I love 50's and early 60's fashions and I love the idea of embracing my own quirky Inner June. I think June Cleaver was great. She had a fabulous sense of style, a great sense of humour, and she ran her home and family with military precision.
I also admire another June: June Carter Cash. There was a woman who always put her family first, had buckets of talent, and a fantastic sense of fashion to boot. I fell in love all over again with the 50's and early 60's looks when I saw Walk the Line for the first time. I've wanted to make June's poppy dress ever since.

Gorgeous, no? Love those big poppies.

Keeping in mind my Thrifty365 Pledge, I'll be making or thrifting everything. I'm aiming to recreate a pretty, yet practical, 50's and early 60's wardrobe for myself. I'll also be using either patterns from my stash or vintage patterns only. I've pledged to only buy vintage patterns for this year.
I've raided my fabric stash and found some terrific online fabric sales to come up with a mix of modern and retro prints. I don't want to exhaustively reproduce the clothes I find inspiring, but rather turn out something that suits me. If I find vintage materials that I love, I'll definitely use them, along with modern pieces.

I love this idea! I'll join you, although I'll probably alter the concept a bit cause a full skirt looks hideous on me.
Fabulous, Heather! So glad you'll join me. I've branched out to include patterns from the 60s and 70s, too.
love this cause i love early 50's and 60s clothes, the full skirt is my hourglass figure's best friend! i'd love to join, but i need a bit more info please?
